JAIPUR – Former Rajasthan legislator Sanyam Lodha is facing a mounting security threat after receiving multiple death threats and enduring a reported reconnaissance of his farmhouse by suspected syndicate shooters, according to local authorities and police reports.
Lodha, a former MLA from Sirohi, reported receiving three international calls and audio messages on October 11. The caller, identifying himself as gangster Arju, threatened a drive-by assault using automatic weapons despite Lodha’s existing security detail.
The threats follow a September operation where the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Anti-Gangster Task Force arrested two suspects-identified as Jaskaran Singh and Rajendra Singh-near the Nepal border. Investigators state the two men conducted surveillance on Lodha’s Sirohi farmhouse, though local foot traffic during municipal elections prevented an immediate attack.
Police are investigating potential links between the arrested shooters and the subsequent foreign calls, alongside several alternative angles. Investigators are probing whether local criminal networks facilitated the suspects movement, whether the threats stem from Lodha’s past public assertions regarding gangsters operating from within prisons, or if local political and commercial rivalries are involved.
Sirohi Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh Rathore confirmed that the SOG and Anti-Gangster Task Force are handling the probe, with enhanced security details assigned to the former lawmaker following directives from police headquarters.
Lodha dismissed the intimidation efforts, stating he remains active in public outreach and local panchayat engagements. Technical analysis of the Voice over IP and international phone numbers remains ongoing.
