SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir’s ruling National Conference (NC) faces an internal crisis after a recent cabinet expansion sparked rebellion within its ranks.
Nearly 25 disgruntled NC legislators have given a 14-day ultimatum to party leadership, threatening to withdraw support if their demands are not met. The group is calling for the removal of Chief Minister’s advisor Nasir Aslam Wani whom they accuse of organizational overreach and four newly appointed ministers. Senior leaders Nazir Ahmed Gurezi and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan lead a four-member delegation tasked with delivering these terms to Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
Adding to the strain, Srinagar Lok Sabha MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi announced his formal resignation from both the party and Parliament, accusing leadership of retreating from core promises on Article 370 and public welfare. Meanwhile, BJP and opposition leaders sharply criticized NC President Farooq Abdullah for remarks in Baramulla suggesting Pakistan’s diplomatic stance helped preserve Kashmir’s identity.
An NC spokesperson downplayed the friction, attributing it to routine adjustments following a government expansion.
