Police Probe Sudden Death of CBS Journalist Jimmy Ssekabito: Authorities investigate mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of veteran journalist Ssekabito Jimmy in Kampala.

Police have launched a formal investigation into the sudden and unexplained death of Jimmy Ssekabito, a journalist with Central Broadcasting Service (CBS) radio.

The 45-year-old journalist died early on the morning of June 27, 2025, following an incident in the Rubaga area of Kampala.

According to a statement from Senior Superintendent Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Ssekabito was involved in an incident around 6:00 a.m. near the Uganda Red Cross Society offices on Rubaga Road.

Reports indicate he fell off a boda boda motorcycle and subsequently lost consciousness.

Police Probe Sudden Death

He was rushed to Rubaga Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 6:40 a.m. SSP Onyango noted that the body bore no visible external injuries.

“A death inquiry file has been opened to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death,” he said.

Police secured evidence from the scene and began gathering statements from relatives and witnesses. Following the initial medical examination at Rubaga Hospital, Ssekabito’s body was transferred to the City Mortuary in Mulago for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.

“The Kampala Metropolitan Police extend their deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Ssekabito Jimmy during this tragic time,” the statement said.

“We join the nation in mourning the loss of a respected journalist and committed professional.”

Investigators are continuing their inquiries and have pledged to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Notably, Ssekabito was a correspondent based in Ssembabule, covering political developments for CBS FM and Buganda Kingdom Radio.

Some have linked his death to tensions surrounding local politics in the region, but police investigations are ongoing to establish the facts.
