Why are maternal kidney failure cases at PBM Hospital triggering political heat?

Bikaner News
Bikaner News: Jaipur/Bikaner, June 12: Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar appeared visibly irritated during a press conference on Thursday when questioned about the alarming cases of postpartum women developing kidney failure at Bikaner’s PBM Hospital.
The exchange came as journalists sought clarity on reports that(Bikaner News) several affected women exhibited strikingly similar symptoms and experienced a rapid deterioration in health within hours of delivery. Reporters asked whether the pattern pointed towards a systemic lapse or a common medical factor requiring urgent investigation.
Responding sharply, the minister maintained that the women were not in good health when they arrived at the hospital. “They were admitted in a serious condition. What are you talking about?” he said, before calling upon Sardar Patel Medical College Principal Dr. Surendra Verma to explain the patients’ medical status.
In a remark that drew attention, Khimsar said, “You tell them — did they come dancing on their feet or did they come sick?”
The minister also defended the hospital’s overall record, arguing that isolated tragedies should not overshadow the treatment provided to thousands of patients. “A thousand patients come here. If two die and the rest recover, nobody talks about those who return home healthy,” he said.
The incident underscores growing public concern and mounting demands for a transparent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the cases.
