World Environment Day: Jaipur. On the occasion of World Environment Day, a large-scale public awareness program under the *“Plastic-Free Campaign” was organized today at Mahesh Nagar Vegetable Market, Ward No. 86, Malviya Nagar Zone, Jaipur. The initiative was jointly conducted by Desire Foundation and Center for Community Resilience and Advocacy Foundation (World Environment Day) in collaboration with Jaipur Municipal Corporation.
Cloth bag vending machine installed
During the program, citizens, traders, and customers were educated about the harmful effects of single-use plastic and the importance of environmental conservation. Representatives of Desire Foundation highlighted the significance and utility of the solar-powered cloth bag vending machine installed at Mahesh Nagar Vegetable Market. Citizens were informed that a reusable cloth bag can be obtained from the machine for just ₹5, and each bag is capable of carrying up to 7 kilograms of weight.
As part of the campaign, traders were urged to completely discontinue the use of single-use plastic and encourage customers to switch to cloth or jute bags. Citizens were also advised to carry reusable bags from home while visiting markets and contribute towards environmental protection.
Children participating
Children participating in the event presented an engaging street play on the themes of cleanliness and a plastic-free India. Through the performance, the audience was made aware of environmental conservation, sanitation, and the adverse impacts of plastic pollution.
The event was attended by Mrs. Ruchi Khandelwal, Director of Desire Foundation; Mr. Prakash Chand Agrawal, President of Mahesh Nagar Market Association; Mr. Shiv Shankar Sharma, General Secretary; Dr. Ganesh Narayan Chaudhary, Director of Center for Community Resilience and Advocacy Foundation; Mrs. Anamika, Project Coordinator; Mr. Yogesh Sharmafrom Desire Foundation; and members of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation PIU team, including Ms. Anju (IEC Expert) and Arjun (In-charge), along with several distinguished citizens, traders, and local residents.
Representatives of Desire Foundation also conducted an interactive session by asking questions related to environmental protection and cleanliness. Participants who answered correctly were rewarded with T-shirts as an encouragement.
At the conclusion of the program, citizens, traders, and representatives of participating organizations signed a pledge for environmental protection. All participants took an oath to discourage the use of single-use plastic and actively promote environmental conservation and cleanliness.
Jaipur Municipal Corporation and Desire Foundation appealed to the public to transform environmental conservation into a mass movement and contribute actively towards building a plastic-free and cleaner Jaipur.
