NEW DELHI – Delhi Police detained dozens of demonstrators near Bangla Sahib Gurudwara on Friday after hundreds gathered to protest the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Organized by “People Against SIR” and the All India Students Association (AISA), the three-hour demonstration aimed to march from the gurudwara to Election Commission headquarters. Heavy police barricades halted the procession, citing public order restrictions.

The protest marks the ninth major demonstration in Delhi over the past 22 days against the voter list revision. Opposition groups, including the INDIA bloc, Aam Aadmi Party, Left parties, and Samyukt Kisan Morcha, allege the process arbitrarily deletes eligible voters. They are demanding an immediate halt to the revision, an audit of purged names, a return to paper ballots and Kumar’s exit.

Police deployed extra forces across Connaught Place and diverted traffic nearby. Election officials and government representatives denied any wrongdoing, stating the revision follows standard legal protocols.
