JAIPUR : Launching a scathing offensive against the Opposition, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw accused the Congress party of systematically eroding democratic institutions to spread political instability across the nation.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Jaipur on Thursday, Vaishnaw challenged Congress leadership on its recurring skepticism toward Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, and constitutional procedures.
”Democratic institutions are nurtured through decades of parliamentary effort, statutory frameworks, and the hard work of 140 crore Indians,” Vaishnaw stated. “The manner in which Congress repeatedly assaults these bodies threatens the sanctity of the Constitution.”
Firing six direct questions at the main Opposition party, the Union Minister demanded to know why Congress opposes the SIR process despite it being a routine constitutional measure conducted periodically since 1947. He questioned the party’s double standards on EVMs—an innovation introduced during Congress governance that eradicated booth-capturing and voting fraud. Vaishnaw further challenged whether Congress advocates retaining deceased voters, duplicate entries, or non-citizens on electoral rolls.
Expressing confidence in parliamentary debate, Vaishnaw asserted that the government stands ready to convene even a special session if Congress genuinely seeks a discussion on SIR. However, he predicted the Opposition would walk out mid-debate due to a lack of substance.
Concluding his address, Vaishnaw remarked that vote-bank politics has run its course, asserting that citizens under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership are firmly aligned with the vision of a developed India.
