New Delhi – Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has canceled his trip to New Delhi for the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum due to unforeseen circumstances, the Iranian embassy announced on Saturday.

While Ghalibaf will not attend, an Iranian parliamentary delegation will represent the country at the summit to maintain high-level diplomatic engagement. The embassy emphasized Tehran’s commitment to deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with fellow BRICS nations.

The two-day forum opens on October 26 at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will chair the high level meeting, which brings together parliamentary leaders from 11 member states and 10 partner nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to attend.

Operating under the theme “Strengthening Parliaments for People-Centric Development” delegates will tackle key issues including institutional resilience, ethical artificial intelligence, digital transformation and global governance reform. The summit concludes on October 27 with a joint statement outlining shared strategic frameworks.
