BJP’s new move
Leander Paes’s joining the BJP isn’t just a formal political move, but rather a major message for the West Bengal electoral landscape. Having carved a niche for himself in the sports world, Paes’ popularity and public image could prove crucial for the BJP during the election season, especially at a time when every party in Bengal is trying to strengthen its support base and reach out to voters through new faces.
Leander Paes is among the few prominent figures in Indian tennis who have represented the country for a long time and achieved remarkable success on the global stage. Consequently, his entry into active politics has naturally become a major political and symbolic development. With this move, the BJP also appears to be signaling its intention to contest the West Bengal elections with full seriousness and strategic preparation.
