Raghav Chadha: Just after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) decided to replace MP Raghav Chadha as its deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, the leader posted a subtle message on social media, sharing a video highlighting his parliamentary work.
In the video shared hours after the party’s move, Chadha compiled a montage of issues he has raised in Parliament. These included concerns around mobile (Raghav Chadha)data usage, paternity leave, food adulteration, flight delays, and alleged paper leaks.
Over time, Chadha has frequently drawn attention for speaking on matters affecting the common public. Clips of his speeches in Parliament have often gone viral, reinforcing his image as a vocal representative on everyday issues. However, he has not issued any official statement regarding his replacement so far.
Ashok Mittal Named as Replacement
According to sources quoted by PTI, the AAP submitted a letter to the Rajya Sabha secretariat proposing MP Ashok Mittal as the new deputy leader in the Upper House, replacing Chadha.
Reasons Behind the Move
The development appears to be linked to a series of events dating back to 2024. As per PTI, Chadha’s prolonged silence on key party matters and his absence from major public engagements led by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal may have influenced the decision.
When Kejriwal was arrested in the excise policy case in March 2024, Chadha was abroad for medical treatment. He remained away from active political activity during Kejriwal’s nearly six-month jail term, a period when other senior leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, were also incarcerated.
More recently, Chadha did not publicly react when a Delhi court discharged Kejriwal, Sisodia, and other AAP leaders in the excise case last month. He was also reportedly absent from Kejriwal’s press conference and a rally held at Jantar Mantar after the court’s decision.
Uncertainty Over Chadha’s Future
Sources suggest Chadha has been increasingly sidelined from party campaigns and organisational roles. Despite this, he continues to actively raise public interest issues in Parliament, including high airfares and concerns related to gig workers. It remains unclear what this latest development means for Chadha’s future within the party, with speculation continuing over his next move.
